In this Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Engravings Guide, we will show you every special upgrade that you can apply on your weapon and armor, along with the each upgrade’s feature that will strengthen your gameplay and give you the upper hand in combat.
For example, let's say the stats page says my warrior damage is +100%, hunter is +200% and assassin is + 300%. If I choose to forge the warrior variant of the weapon, I convert half of my warrior bonus (50%) to all damage. So in the end, my warrior, hunter, assassin damage buffs will be 100, 250, 350 respectively. The choice of engravings should depend on the chosen weapon and legendary armor (or elements of armor). The most flexible engravings are: +x% warrior damage. +x% all damage. +x% armor pierce. +x% sword damage (both weapons recommended above are swords). +x% post-critical damage. +x% Overpower Attacks.
Engravings are unlocked in multiple ways in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, From completing a set of challenges, locating collectibles like Ainigmata Ostrakas, or solving riddles to reveal special Engravings.
Engravings can only be applied once onto a weapon and cannot be removed once placed. However, certain Engravings can only be applied to specific armor or weapon types.
Follow our guide to understand what an Engraving will offer to you in the game, once you have applied it to your weapon or armor. Refer to every Engraving we have listed below which will help you make decisions prior to applying any engraving to a weapon or armor.

Legendary armour and Legendary weapons are the best weapons and armour you can get in Assassin's Creed Odyssey, and thankfully this time they earned in specific ways, rather than relying on any chance or random drops.
Here on this page, we'll explain things like how to get Legendary Weapons and Armour, as well as any other things you should know about engravings and how to get the best weapons and armour in the game, and Legendary gear in general.
The best Assassin's Creed Odyssey armour, weapons and engravings explained - Legendary vs. Epic gear
Gear - as in, both weapons and armour - comes in several levels of rarity in Assassin's Creed Odyssey: Common, Rare, Epic and Legendary.
With each level or rarity your gear increases in strength, as dictated by the armour and damage stats for armour and weapons respectively. The catch, though, is that as well as the raw stats of an item, you also need to consider the number of slots available for engravings.
Engravings, largely earned through completing Aignigmata Ostraka - we have a full list of all Ainigmata Ostraka locations, all solutions and all engravings, by the way - give you boosts to various attributes, from damage types to cooldowns.
The problem with legendary gear is that, at the moment, each legendary item has the same number of Engraving slots as Epic gear - only one of its slots is already taken up by the Legendary Engraving that comes with it. So while you can earn great engravings from legendary gear, you're forced into using them if you want to wear that item, and it might not actually be the optimal choice for your build. In brief, you can often min-max Epic gear to a higher standard than Legendary gear thanks to that additional spare slot.
There's still a reason to get Legendary armour and weapons though: once you get a piece of Legendary Gear (either weapon or armour), you then unlock that Legendary Engraving for use across any other item that has a spare slot - so it's still worth grabbing the gear with the engraving you want, even if the Legendary item itself is outscaled by an equivalent Epic item thanks to your ability to more efficiently min-max it.
We sourced our lists below from a number of places alongside our own experience, with YouTubers such as JorRaptor and Shirrako - embedded above and below - great resources if you're looking for some more detail.
